Haiti - Social : Samuel Pierre becomes Member of the Order of Canada

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, announced today 66 new appointments to the Order of Canada. These appointments were made on the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada.

Samuel Pierre, a Les Anglais (a Haiti town, in the south) native, brother of the late Pierre-noel Pierre, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dumont.

Among the recipients include the eminent professor Samuel Pierre, President of GRAHN-Monde, which was elevated to the rank of Member of the Order of Canada. Mr. Pierre will receive insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date for his contributions to the field of wired and wireless communications networks, and for his volunteerism within Quebec's Haitian community.

In 2009, Pierre Samuel was elevated to the rank of Knight of the National Order of Quebec.

"We wish him our warmest congratulations. It is an honor that reflects on the entire Haitian community of Canada," declared Daniel Supplice, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad.

Pierre was born in Haiti in 1955. Graduated in mathematics and computer science (B.Sc. and M.Sc.), of the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), in Economic Sciences (M.Sc.) of the University of Montreal, in Civil Engineering (B. Eng.) and Electrical Engineering (Ph.D.) of the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Samuel Pierre is currently Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and Software Engineering of that institution, director of the Research Laboratory of Networking and Mobile Computing (LARIM), Chair of Industrial Research NSERC/Ericsson in Mobile Networking Systems of Next Generation and Director of the Research Group in networking and mobile computing (GRIM).

Samuel Pierre has always been committed to Haiti. He is currently president of the Quebec-Haiti foundation for a niversal education of quality (QHASUQ) whose he's one of the founders. Its action in the GRAHN aims to bring together the forces of progress, both inside and outside of Haiti, for an effective participation in the reconstruction of the country.
