Pedestrian killed in early-morning Boston accident

By Marc Larocque, Globe Correspondent

A Dorchester man died after he was hit by a sports coupe in Boston's Mattapan section early this morning, state police said.

Sylvester Gethers was walking at about 6 a.m. when a 1998 Honda Prelude turning left onto Morton Street from Norfolk Street traveled onto the sidewalk and struck him, state police said in a statement.

Police said Gethers suffered serious injuries and was transported to Carney Hospital in Dorchester, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was identified as 20-year-old Paul Edouard. Police had no comment on whether he would face criminal charges.

The crash remains under investigation, said Lieutenant David Wilson, a state police spokesman.
