PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI — A mob in northwestern Haiti has set fire to a police station and freed prisoners to protest a police shooting.
Police spokesman Frantz Lerebours says the protest began after an officer shot a 34-year-old suspect while trying to arrest him in the town of Desdunes. He said Tuesday that the suspect is in serious condition.
Lerebours said a mob of about 50 people thought the suspect had been killed and responded by attacking the police station on Monday. He said he had no further details about the arrest and that authorities are investigating the incident.
