Four days after also being subject to the humiliation of kidnapping for ransom, 12-year-old boy murdered in Haiti

By The Associated Press

PORT-AU-PRINCE U.N. police say a kidnapped 12-year-old boy has been killed in Haiti after his parents could not pay a ransom.

U.N. mission spokeswoman Sophie Boutaud de la Combe said the boy's body was found Saturday, four days after he was abducted in the southeastern town of Grande Ravine.

She said Tuesday that three suspects have been arrested. No further details were available.

Almost 70 minors have been reported kidnapped in Haiti this year, and three of them killed, according to U.N. statistics. The U.N. estimates that half of all kidnappings in the impoverished country now involve children and teens.

Haitian and U.N. police are still searching for a 10-year-old boy who was abducted last week in Port-au-Prince.
