Breaking the walls of government secrecy, Haiti announces that economist Ericq Pierre is named prime minister

By Agence France-Presse

PORT-AU-PRINCE (AFP) Haitian President Rene Preval has chosen Ericq Pierre, an official with the Inter-American Development Bank, to be the country's prime minister, sources told AFP Sunday.

Pierre, a respected Haitian economist, would replace ousted prime minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis, who was forced to resign on April 12 over rocketing food and fuel prices that sparked violent demonstrations claiming several lives.
