Also a rupture with gross incompetence, not yet: Modern day buccaneer Haitian deputies approve former miserably co-failed neighborhood baker for prime minister

By Agence France-Presse

PORT-AU-PRINCE (AFP) - Haiti's chamber of deputies voted Thursday to approve the nomination of Michele Pierre-Louis as prime minister, giving hopes of an imminent end to three months of political stalemate.

Haiti's senate must now vote on Pierre-Louis's nomination to succeed former prime minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis, who was ousted on April 12 amid riots over skyrocketing food prices.

Parliamentary sources said the senate would likely vote next week.

Pierre-Louis, 61, executive director of the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL), is the third candidate to be submitted for the job by President Rene Preval since Alexis quit, after the previous two were rejected by the legislature.

The chamber of deputies gave her a 61-1 vote of approval, with around 20 deputies abstaining.
