80 Thousand
Haitian Families to Benefit from New Health &
Sanitary
Projects in Grand’Anse
Innovative
Inter-Municipal Cooperation Lands $700,000
Initiative
Port-au-Prince (November 11th,
2011)-- An
ambitious health and sanitary program valued at
$700,000, which will benefit 80,000 families in
Haiti’s Southwestern Grand’Anse region, was made
possible by an innovative inter-municipal
cooperation agreement signed by the President of
the Association of Mayors from Grand’Anse
(AMAGA), Saint-Antoine Hospital of Jérémie,
France’s Nantes-Metropole Community, and Nantes
University Hospital.
The agreement,
fostered by Haiti’s Ministry of the
Interior, launches a comprehensive public health
policy on water supply and sanitation for all
the department’s municipalities, enabling the
construction of an extensive latrine and potable
water program, which will help contain the
spread of cholera in both urban and rural
communities.
This
Inter-Municipal Cooperation will provide
technical, financial and administrative support
to the Saint-Antoine Hospital of Jérémie,
including medical personnel training, renovation
of health facilities and medical equipment.
The Ministry of the Interior carries out the President of Haiti’s vision to drive sustainable development through local initiatives and decentralized cooperation.
